Security Tip 2 Anti Virus Software updates

A large list of new viruses appear every month. At this point, practically everybody comes into contact with a virus of some kind.

Although great care may be taken to prevent being infected by a virus, there are several factors that may still put you at risk. For example, you may take great care against viruses, but somebody else that uses your computer may not, or your computer may be connected to a network that is not completely virus-free.

A few years ago, when computers still weren't very powerful, running a virus scan would noticeably slow down a PC’s performance, so many users opted not to do it altogether. However, with today's higher performance processors, this can and should be done frequently without affecting performance drastically, if affected at all.

Apart from scanning your computer locally, the virus database on your software should be updated regularly. Due to the fact that there are so many new viruses appearing almost daily, anti-virus software should be constantly kept up to date to avoid attacks from viruses that your software cannot detect.

Having anti-virus software, but not updating it regularly is one of the major security risks that your computer can be exposed to and makes it completely useless against new threats.
